Udupi, Jul 10: A body was found in Santekatte here on Tuesday July 10 by the police while chasing down a murder accused.
The body was found in a highly decomposed state in Nayanpalli, 5th cross in Kakkunje. The body is of a man between 30-35 years old, wearing a shirt and bermuda shorts. A gold ring was found on one of the fingers.
The identity of the man is yet to be ascertained. It is said that he may have died around 10-15 days back.
Sources said that police stumbled upon the body when they were pursuing an accused in the recent murder of Radhu Karkera of Ammunje. The culprit is said to have escaped into a nearby forest, and the police, while chasing him, came across the body. They then let go off the chase and began to investigate the new find.
Initial reports had claimed that police had found another body, that of a youngster, in the same area while investigating the first body. However, no immediate details were available, and now police have confirmed to Daijiworld that it was only a rumour raised by the locals, and that no second body was found. The rumour was fuelled as a stranger had been spotted in the area a few days ago.
