Putin Orders Probe into Improper Flood Warning

Moscow, Jul 10 (IANS): Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a thorough probe into the flood warning mechanism which allegedly could not alert all residents ahead of the devastating floods in Krasnodar region.

Putin has instructed Investigative Committee, the main federal investigating authority, to probe relevant government bodies and people in charge of informing public on the floods, Xinhua reported.

"It is necessary to carefully and thoroughly investigate this case and make objective conclusions," Putin was quoted by Itar-Tass news agency as saying.

Over 170 people are reported to have died in the Krasnodar territory while 800 others hospitalised and 24,000 families left homeless.

On Monday, Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov said during a government meeting that people in the Krasnodar territory were not fully warned of the floodings, local media reported.

According to preliminary assessment, some residents in flood affected Krasnodar region did not get timely alert about floods.
