Mangalore, Jul 9: The 65th general body meeting and election and award ceremony of Indian Catholic youth Movement (ICYM), Mangalore Diocese, was held on Sunday July 8 at Rosario Church hall. More than 1,000 youth participated in the programme.
The programme began with Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr Franklin D'Souza, the National youth director. Fr Marie Joseph and Fr Ronald P D'Souza were the concelebrants. Fr Franklin D'Souza in his sermon, inspired the youth to be service-minded, committed and volunteer themselves for the church and the nation. He also called upon them to imbibe the qualities and values of Jesus Christ to live an exemplary life.
Regional youth director, Fr Mari Joseph addressed the youth and inspired them to take part in the regional youth convention “Yuvajanotsava” which will be held at Beltangady from October 28 to 30.
The website of the convention www.Yuvajanotsava.kryc.org was launched by Fr Franklin D'Souza. Soon after the mass the general body meeting was held. president Mishal Fernandes and the executive committee led the meeting. Soon after the meeting there was an election for the new executive members of the year 2012-13. The former president of ICYM, Vincent Rodrigues conducted the election proceedings.

The award ceremony and valedictory function was held at 2.30 pm. Fr Alwyn D'Souza, the former national youth director presided over the function. Nigel Pereira, the president of Catholic Sabha, Mangalore region was the chief guest. The outgoing central council members handed over the charge to the newly elected council members by handing over the files and rose to symbolize the transfer of power. Mishal Fernandes, the outgoing president expressed his gratitude towards the movement which helped him to grow in his capacities and talent. He thanked his team members and also the units for their cooperation and support.
Fr Alwyn D'Souza felicitated all the council members for their selfless service and leadership. The newly married DEXCO members were felicitated by Nigel Pereira, the chief guest. The new president Nelson Monis expressed his gratitude for electing him as the president of ICYM Mangalore Diocese.
Fr Ronald P D'Souza, the newly appointed director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese conducted the oath taking ceremony for the newly elected office bearers. Fr Alwyn D'Souza in his presidential remark recalled his good old days in ICYM Diocese, regional and national level. He encouraged the leaders to take initiative in socio-political fields. He wished well to the newly elected council members and thanked the outgoing office-bearers. He distributed the awards to the units that bagged the 'The Best Units of the Diocese' titles. Panir, Cordel, Vamanjoor and Venur were declared as the best units of the diocese for their performance.
Hilson D'Souza, the general secretary of ICYM, presented the annual report as well as the cup report. Vincent Rodrigues thanked everybody for the success of the programme.
