Mangalore: Jawa Bikes Vroom at Annual Rally in City

Mangalore, Jul 9: Every second sunday of July is celebrated as International Jawa Day across the globe. A rally of these heavy steel, vintage Jawa motor bikes was organized by the ‘Mangalore Jawa-Yezdi Motorcycle Club’ to commemorate the 10th International Jawa Day at Balmatta here on Sunday July 8.
The rally was flagged off from YMPU ground, Balmatta. As many as 32 Jawa bikes along with four Willys jeeps participated in the rally that was spread across the city.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Shaun Fernandes (member of the club) said that the International Jawa day is celebrated worldwide and the club has been organizing the rally in Mangalore since 2007. While only three enthusiasts participated in the rally in the first year, the number increased to 15 the next year.
Jawa Colt, Jawa Jet, Jawa Classic, Roadking and many others were part of the rally, out of which Jawa Colt was said to be the oldest model dating back to 1960.
Jawa is a motorcycle manufacturer based in the Czech Republic, which was formerly known as Czechoslovakia. Yezdi that was released in India almost five decades ago still has fans all over the country.
Jawa motorcycles have always had a glorious standard in the two-wheeler scenario in the country. Mangalore youth have always attached a sense of prestige to riding these vintage bikes. Participants and owners of the bikes will always remain to loyal to the Yezdi slogan ‘The Forever Bike, Forever Value’, said a participant.
