Udupi, Jul 5: In an effort to keep the city clean in the wake of increase in the number of malaria, dengue and chikungunya cases, the municipal officials have issued a warning against those who throw trash on the roads or in drains.
In a media release, the municipality has warned of strict action against those throw garbage or litter the roads and drains.
The release stated that despite taking several measures to curb the spread of diseases and warning citizens not to empty trash in drains, people continue to do so.
Due to trash, tree branches and other rubbish in drains, the flow of rainwater is obstructed. The stagnant water thus becomes a breeding place for mosquitoes.
Strict action will be taken against those who litter the roads and drains with trash, as per clause 224 of the Karnataka Municipalities Act of 1964 regarding dumping of waste in public areas, the release stated.
