Myanmar's First Vice President Resigns


Yangon, Jul 4 (IANS): U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Myanmar's first vice president, has stepped down from his position because of health reasons, President U Thein Sein informed parliament through a message Wednesday.

Read by speaker of parliament U Khin Aung Myint, the message added that the new first vice president is to be elected in a week, Xinhua reported.

The 4th session of the two-house parliament opened in the capital Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday.

According to informed sources, the 61-year-old vice president had submitted his resignation to the president in early May after receiving medical treatment in Singapore for an unspecified ailment.
