Mangalore, Jul 3: In what could perhaps be called the first 'casualty' after the ban on tinted windows in cars, an astrologer was caught red-handed with a young girl and handed over to the police by the public.
The incident occured near Kankanady railway station in an isolated lane.
The astrologer, identified as Prakash, aged 60, was caught with the 19-year-old girl in his car. The girl is said to be a college student.
The car was found parked in an isolated lane by three or four passerby, who grew suspicious and peeped into the car. To their surprise they found Prakash and the girl in a compromising position inside and pulled them out before locking the car.
It is said that in a bid to escape, Prakash offered them Rs 50,000 in return for his release, but they refused.
They called the police who arrived at the spot and took the couple and the car into custody. The girl was let off with a warning, while a case was registered against Prakash.
Prakash hails from Vamanjoor, where he runs his astrology office. It is said that he had helped the girl's family out of some problem, and according to sources, had lured the girl in devious ways.
Kankanady rural police are investigating.
