Udupi, Jun 30: The suspicion that the murder of Shakuntala, a resident of Kemmannu on June 25 was the handiwork of known persons was proved right with the arrest of a close relative of the victim here on Saturday June 30.
The police arrested Shakuntala's cousin Harish, a resident of Uppoor, along with Santosh, a resident of Heroor in connection with the murder. It is said that Santosh is already wanted in other criminal cases. The two were rounded up in Santhekatte.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, but based on circumstantial evidence, the police had initially ruled out theft, as nothing was found amiss in Shakuntala's residence.
Shakuntala was found strangled to death on June 25 in her residence. Her body was discovered in the bedroom by her daughter on her return from school.
