Mangalore: 17-year-old Boy Meets Watery Grave at Soorinje

Mangalore, Jun 24: A 17-year-old boy lost his life due to drowning at Soorinje Puchchady at Suratkal near here on Sunday June 24.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit, a resident of Hosakadu in Kinnigoli. Four of his friends who were with him escaped.
On Sunday, Rohit and his friends had come to the river by cycles to catch fish and for a swim. They dived into the river from the branches of a tree. Rohit got pulled in by force of the river and drowned.
The other boys raised an alarm and immediately informed their families by phone.
The locals as well as zilla panchayat member Ishwar Kateel, along with fire brigade personnel, rescue teams and fishermen conducted an intense search operation.
Rohit had finished his second PU and was employed in Arvind Motors, Kulur. He has sister and a brother, both of whom are in school.
MLA Abhaychandra Jain, Kasturi Panja of BJP Moodbidri unit, Kateel taluk panchayat member Baby Sundar Kodi and Soorinje gram panchayat members arrived at the spot.
Suratkal and Mulky police teams conducted preliminary investigatons.
