Mangalore, Jun 24: In the wake of ongoing raids by the MCC officials around the city, Gulzan Banu, Mayor of Mangalore has instructed MCC officials to send her information prior to any such raids conducted by them.
In a notice sent to the MCC commissioner, she has asked officials to inform her of any such onsets in advance.
It can be recalled that, MCC officials had raided illegal slaughter houses near Kudroli and recovered a number of sheep which were held captive at an abattoir. The recovered sheep were later released by the Mayor but with a fine of a mere Rs 2000.
MCC officials have raided even more slaughter houses at Bunder, wher more sheep were recovered. This time, the MCC officials did not give a chance to the Mayor to fine the shopkeepers, but the officials sold the sheep in a quick open tender process.
Now the Mayor has instructed officials to brief her before any such operations are carried out in and around the city .
Reacting to the notice of the Mayor, an MCC official has stated that, there are no such requirements in the law to inform the Mayor about conducting raids in the city. MCC officials have control to raid any establishments, if found to be illegal without informing any elected representatives.
