Mangalore: Lack of Quality Education Encouraging Tutorials - Dr Mohan Alva

Mangalore, Jun 23: "Presently, as there is intense competition in the education sector, it is the duty of the institutions to train the teachers in providing updated information to the students. However, we lack such quality education, which has indirectly encouraged tutorial market," said Dr M Mohan Alva, renowned educationalist and chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri.
He addressed the gathering of children on 'Educational empowerment for 10th standard students' organized under the banner of Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEFI) and Minority Guidance Forum (MGF) at Town Hall here on Saturday June 23.
Dr Alva said that the tutorials have made use of the inability of the institutions to train the students. "The institutions are unable to train the students with updated resources for competitive exams. Making use of this inability, the tutorial has turned out to be a business," he said.
He said that educational institutions should not be a channel to make money but should be catalysts for growth and education, rendering the best training to ensure the success of students.
"There are a lot of opportunities and competitiveness in the present era, the vision and the ways to reach one's goal should be right," he said.
B A Moideen, former minister for higher education, Syed Mohammed Beary, chairman of Bearys Group of Institutions also spoke.
B M Mumthaz Ali, Y Mahammad Beary, president of MEIF, Moosabba P Beary, president of MGF, B A Nazeer and Nissar F Mohammed were present at the programme.
