Mamata Poojary-led Indian Kabbadi Team Wins Gold at Asian Beach Games

Japan, Jun 23: The victory march of Indian women's kabaddi team continues with Karkala girl Mamata Poojary-led team beating Thailand by a huge margin of 54 - 25 to win yet another gold medal, this time at the Asian Beach Games held in Japan.
Unbeaten in the entire tournament, the Indian women entered the finals as the favourite to win the gold. Inthe league matches, India beat Thailand in the first round by 48-40, then Bangladesh by 50-28 and later Sri lanka by 57-31 to top the points table.
Speaking to daijiworld from Japan, captain Mamata Poojary said "We were a little nervous initially, as our men's team had lost the race for gold in the semi-finals. But our coach inspired us and boosted our confidence. We never thought we would remain unbeaten throughout the tourney. We feel extremely happy, and all credit goes to the girls and the coach."
In the men's kabaddi, India lost to Pakistan in the semis. Iran then beat Pakistan to clinch the gold in the finals.
