US: Man indicted on drug and gun charges


Washington, June 22 (IBNS) A US man has been indicted on drug and gun charges, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday. 

Jonathan Garcia, 23, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was charged on June 20 by indictment with four counts of distribution of heroin and two counts of carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger.

 The FBI arrested Garcia on Wednesday on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by a United States Magistrate Judge.

According to an affidavit attached to the arrest warrant, Garcia, a Philadelphia Police Officer assigned to the 17th Police District, sold bundles of heroin to a source cooperating with the FBI. The source was posing as a drug buyer.

The affidavit details several incidents between May and June 5, where Garcia sold the FBI source bundles of heroin. Garcia was in uniform when he sold heroin to the source on May 16 and June 5, according to the affidavit.

If convicted of all charges, Garcia faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Philadelphia Police Department and is being investigated by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin R. Brenner.
