Mangalore: 'Literary Chariot' Flagged off to Promote Konkani Books

Mangalore, Jun 21: In a bid to popularize and increase the number of Konkani books in school libraries, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Mangalore inaugurated ‘Konkani Literary Chariot’ to distribute Konkani books worth Rs 10 lac in schools. The intention was also to establish Konkani department in each school.
Konkani Literature Chariot, a mobile conveyance for the distribution of books, was flagged off at Lourdes Central School here on Thursday June 21. The vehicle will go to different school on Friday June 22 also.
In each school, a simple inaugural ceremony will be held, followed by the distribution of books. The valedictory programme will be held in Canara School, Dongerkery.
During the two days, the ‘Konkani Literature Chariot’ will reach as many as 22 schools to create interest in Konkani literature among the school children. Altogether, 120 schools will be provided with Konkani books.
In addition, the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Mangalore will organize a programme to felicitate the first batch of students of Konkani who came out with flying colours in the SSLC examinations at the Academy cultural centre, MCC building here on Saturday, June 23 at 3 pm.
N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of Karnataka Assembly will deliver the inaugural address. Kasargod Chinna, president of the academy, Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor of Rakkno Weekly, Manohar Prasad, Rajendrakanth Shet, Dr B Devdas Pai, Ashok Shet and others will be present.
