New Delhi, June 21 (IBNS): The Janata Dal (United) on Thursday announced it will support United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential election.
"Keeping the present situation in mind we have decided to support UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee," JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
However, he said the party is not supporting the Congress.
He said the JD(U) wanted to reach a consensus on the issue of Presidential poll.
"After discussing with all, we tried to reach a consensus on the matter of Presidential poll. We it to do it till yesterday," he said.
He said the UPA should have talked to them before naming the candidate for the Presidential poll.
Pertinently, the JD(U) is a key ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance ( NDA).
The BJP on Thursday announced to back former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma as their candidate for the Presidential election against Pranab Mukherjee.
