Udupi: Police Arrest Two for Sooda Quarry Blast

Udupi, Jun 20: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday June 19 blast that occured in a stone quarry in Sooda-Nandalike.
The arrested are Anish, manager of Joy Stone Crushers that runs the quarry and Shivanna, who is in-charge of the quarry. They were arrested on Wednesday June 20.
The blast was reportedly a result of a lightning strike on a shed where explosives had been stored. Two women Mallavva and Ambika who were near the shed lost their lives.
The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.
Meanwhile, locals and members of district JD(S) demanded the cancellation of the quarry's licence.
Joy Stone Crushers is owned by Joy and is registered in the name of his son Kiran.
