Mangalore, Jun 19: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday June 19 demolished a wall on a private property for blocking a drain and causing the rainwater to overflow in Adyar, Kannur.
Rainwater had begun to overflow in the area due to blocking of drains following two separate construction works. Kanchana Automotives had started building its outlet in the area, and so also a certain Gopalkrishna on his private property.
Both parties had built walls blocking off the drain, hence affecting the flow of rainwater. When highway overflowed, MCC officials arrived to inspect the area, and found that construction work by Kanchana Automotives and Gopalkrisha was the cause.
The officials asked Kanchana Automotives to make way for the drain, and the firm agreed at once. However, Gopalkrishna objected and refused to obey orders.
Seeing that he would not heed to their request, the MCC officials went ahead with the task of demolishing the compound wall of Gopalkrishna's property.
Speaking to Daijiworld, MCC joint commissioner Srikanth Rao said that Gopalkrishna has laid foundation stones in his property to construct a building without seeking permission or valid licence from the MCC. "Strict action will be taken against Gopalkrishna," he added.
Corporator Sudhir Shetty was present.
