Pakistan SC disqualifies Prime Minister Gilani

Islamabad, June 19 (IBNS): The Pakistan Supreme Court on Tuesday disqualified Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from holding his office, Pakistan media reported.

The court in April had convicted Gilani of contempt of court as he refused to reopen the corruption charges against Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari.

The court said Gilani stood 'ineligible' since April 26.

The apex court directed Zardari to take the needed steps to elect the next Prime Minister.

It also directed the Election Commission to pass a notification stating that Gilani was no more a member of the Parliament.
