China Publishes Books on Morality of Officials

Beijing, Jun 18 (IANS): As part of the government's efforts to promote integrity among civil servants, a four-book series on moral issues faced by officials was released for sale in Beijing Monday.

The first publication on the topic in China, the series embodies the result of research conducted by experts from the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Xinhua reported.

The books speak about the morality of officials through Chinese history as well as the importance of raising officials' moral standards, said an official with the Beijing Commission for Discipline Inspection.

The prologue of the book series says the major difference between good and bad officials simply lies in whether they perform their duty with a conscience.

The books say a moral official in modern China should always serve the people as well as be loyal, pragmatic, fair-minded and incorruptible, while always improving oneself.
