Sangma meets Advani, Seeks Support for Presidential Poll


New Delhi, Jun 8 (IANS): Former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma Friday met senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani to seek support for his candidature as president.

According to Sangma's office, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader met Advani at the latter's residence in the capital to seek backing from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the presidential elections.

"He has gone to meet Advani to seek support for the presidential elections," said an aide of Sangma.

Sangma has already got support from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

He has met several parties and written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, seeking a meeting.
