Mangalore: Communist Leader B V Kakkilaya Given Tearful Farewell

Mangalore, Jun 4: Freedom fighter and renowned CPI leader B V Kakkilaya was given a touching farewell here on Monday June 4, amid a sea of leaders, well-wishers, followers and party workers.
The funeral cortege left Kakkilaya's residence at Simon Lane, Capitanio by ambulance at 3 pm and was kept at the CPI party office at Hoige Bazar near State Bank for public.
Political leaders across party lines paid their last respects. State legislative assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat was present on behalf of the state government.
Among the leaders present were Ramanath Rai, Janardhan Poojary, K R Sriyan of CPIM,
CPI state secretary K C Satish Chandran, CPM state council member B V Krishnan, advocate Asha Nayak, rationalist Narendra Nayak, Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, Padmanabha Kottari and Srikar Prabhu of BJP, district president of BMS Vishwanath Shetty, BJP minority unit district presidnt Franklin Monteiro, Congress leader Ivan D'Souza, CPI Leaders from Kasargod, Muneer Katipalla of DYFI, Vasant Acharya of CPIM and many others.
At 4 pm, the body was taken to Nandigudda for cremation. The CPI flag was draped on Kakkilaya.
A large number of people, including several women members of CPI were present.
