Agra, May 31 (IANS): The Taj city observed a total shutdown Thursday as shopkeepers joined the 'Bharat Bandh' called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and others to protest the fuel price hike.
BJP activists burnt tyres and blocked traffic on Gwalior road while members of the Samajwadi Party stopped vehicles on the Delhi-Agra highway.
Trains were halted at Bichpuri and Raja Ki Mandi stations here.
The main markets of Agra were shut. Groups of political activists moved around the city urging people to support the bandh.
Even wholesale markets and major shops in the rural areas were closed.
