Mangalore, May 30: It’s school time again. There is excitement in the air, mixed with anxiety, happiness and sadness as well. It is that time of the year when old friends meet after a long vacation, stories are exchanged and new friends and teachers looked forward to.
Probably the nicest thing about going back to school are new books and their fresh frangrance, new uniforms, umbrellas and what not. An amusing part of school life, perhaps with every school kid, is that notebooks have the first five-ten pages written neatly and carefully, and the rest, as the year, goes by, just scribbled!
While the more studious types said school time is 'cool time' as there will be homework, tests and assignments, the happy-go-lucky had a 'missing holidays' kind of look on their faces.
For many, there is sadness of summer vacation coming to an end. It's time again for hard work. And for those shifting schools or beginning school life, butterflies in the stomach have a field day. Cries and wails of toddlers resound in kindergarten classes, while some of the braver ones are seen reassuring them.
Fortunately for the kids, unlike most years, this time schools began without the onslaught of rain. The empty buses are once again brimming, and the morning and evening rush hours are back.
In addition, when most teachers allow the students to select their own seats on the first day, by the second or third morning, their luck runs out and they are made to sit as per the teacher's plan.
