Guwahati, May 30: The Bethany Sisters of North East India Province celebrated the Golden Jubilee of their Province on Monday, May 28 at Bethany Provincial House, Guwahati.
The occasion was marked by a Thanksgiving Eucharist at 9.00 am presided over by Most Rev John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati Archdiocese and concelebrated by Most Rev Thomas D`Souza of Calcutta Archdiocese and Most Rev Stephen Rotluanga, Bishop of Aizawl diocese along with twelve priests.
In his homily Archbishop Thomas of Calcutta highlighted the importance of the attitude of the beatitudes for success in Missionary life. He said that the pioneers of North East province were able to bear fruit because they were anointed with the Holy Spirit as they chose the way of the Beatitudes.
The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a cultural program in the Bethany School Hall at 11.00am. Most Rev Thomas Menamparampil Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati Archdiocese was the Chief Guest of the function and Rev Sr Wilberta was the President. Speaking on the occasion Most Rev Thomas Menamparampil underscored the need for cultivated generosity and self forgetfulness as the qualities for success in Mission, besides a deep commitment to the group/s entrusted to one`s care. He cited need for role models as the deepest need of the youth of North East. He invited the Bethany Sisters to walk the path of generosity and faith.
Rev Sr Wilberta, Superior General of Bethany Sisters congratulated the Provincial and Councilors and the Sisters of North East and paid tribute to the pioneers and all the sisters who have worked in this region. She also thanked all the collaborators in their mission in North East India.
Songs, dances and speeches marked the solemn occasion. A dance drama based on the founding of Bethany by Servant of God RFC Mascarenhas in Mangalore and the entry of Bethany to North East India was staged. Some of the Province`s productions were released during the function.
Students, parents and teachers from various schools of Bethany participated at the celebrations.
