Lucknow, May 29 (IANS): A woman was arrested Tuesday outside the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan here when she tried to enter the high security premises, pretending to be a legislator.
The woman has been identified as Sarita Jaiswal, a resident of Kidwainagar area of Kanpur, police said.
Confirming of the arrest, Lucknow's Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ashutosh Pandey told IANS that the woman tried to hoodwink the police present at the gate number 1, claiming to be an MLA. When the policemen asked her to present her identity card, she threatened them of action for misbehaving with a legislator.
The security personnel, however, physically blocked her way as she tried to move ahead. She was detained and during questioning her lie was discovered. "Her mannerism was suspicious and she did not appear to be an MLA. This raised suspicion and she was arrested for tresspassing," police said.
Police, security agencies and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) sleuths are interrogating her and trying to find her motive behind entering the assembly complex.
Police are also getting in touch with her family members and are trying to ascertain whether she has some psychiatric problem.
Following the arrest, security has been beefed up in the premises as the assembly Budget session is currently under way.
