Five Killed in Pakistan Drone Strike

Islamabad, May 28 (IANS): At least five suspected militants were killed and four others injured just after midnight Sunday in a US drone strike in Pakistan's northwest tribal region, media reports said Monday.

The drone fired four missiles around 1 a.m. at a house and a vehicle in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Xinhua reported citing Urdu TV channel Dunya.

Residents said the toll may rise further as the injured were in critical condition. Identities of the killed and injured people were not known.

Local media said five drones were still hovering over the area after the strike, creating panic among the residents.

This was the 16th drone strike in Pakistan this year. At least 117 people have reportedly been killed in such strikes in 2012.
