New Delhi, May 24 (IANS): The Left parties Thursday condemned the petrol price hike as "a savage attack" on people and announced an India-wide protest day May 31.
"(We) strongly condemn the steep increase in the price of petrol by Rs.7.54 per litre. This is a savage attack on the people already suffering from the effects of continuous price rise of all essential commodities," a statement by CPI-M, CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc said.
The statement said the parties were already conducting protests against the price hike.
"In order to build up a sustained movement to demand a rollback of the price hike, the Left parties have decided to observe an all India protest day on May 31."
