One of the main reasons for the rise in petrol prices is the OPEC, and here we are blaming everyone else. In business it is supply and demand that determines prices.

OPEC was born on September 14, 1960 in Baghdad and the countries joined were Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. The world population was 4 billion and the price of oil was $7.00 a barrel, total oil production was 30 million barrels a day. In the last 38 years the world population has risen to 7 Billion close and industrial output has doubled the world, but do you know what is the OPEC’s oil output today… 32 million barrels of oil day.

Though OPEC is sitting on over 60% of the oil reserves it is constantly cutting and at times increasing oil production to create that natural shortage of oil on the international oil market. Hence, when energy starved countries like India and Chine have grown considerably OPEC has not increased their supply thereby forcing oil prices to go up because of the natural shortage consumers the world to pay more, and more because we desperately need oil.

Another example of how OPEC is increasing and manipulating oil prices. A few years ago 2 new oil exporting countries joined OPEC Ecuador Angola their combined oil production was about 2.4 million barrels a day against the Global oil production is 85 Million barrels a day. One would think that OPEC’s output should have increased by 2.4 million barrels, but guess what OPEC countries cut production by 2.4 million barrels a day, which in essence meant that OPEC took out 2.4 million barrels a day from the world market.

Many countries in the world drill for oil, but most of the oil is for local consumption only a small amount is exported OPEC control the export market. Here is the story in brief when non-OPEC exports more OPEC drill less.

THIS IS WHY PRICES ARE HIGH AND WILL STAY HIGH

Dollar ne Rupee ko Nanga banaya. (Rupee falls to another all-time low of 56.28 against the US dollar ). To fight this our UPA govt increased the Petrol price , like some pilitian offered pooja to God for rain. How stupid we the citizens are. Govt job is to think & fight the current situation. But they do not have time for all these. They will increase the petrol price further if rupee falls again.

One thing is common. Tomorrow if Rupee appreciated against US Dollar or Oil/Gas price will come down, central Govt ( BJP or Congress ) never reduce the Petrol price. It may reduce Rs.1.00 OR Rs.2.00 just for eye wash or fooling public.

Secondly, In Mumbai within days Taxi / Rickshaw owners will go for strike for Fare Hike followed by Private bus and truck owners in UN Divided D.K and all over India. End Result essential commodities price will go up to sky.

Our MP’s, irrespective of their political ideology they never compromise to reduce their MP salary /allowances and Perks.

Don, Udupi/B’Lore, accepted that we are all dumps, but being a very intelligent person can you please explain why the petrol charges being increased when in International market petrol price has been reduced compared to last month. Last month it was US$ 114/-x 53=IRS 6,042/- per barrel and now it is only US$104/-x 56=IRS 5,824 per barrel. Had they increased the price last month we would have accepted the justification but not now. Justify your UPA Government no problem but be bold and courageous enough to condemn their anti public policies too. We can also condemn our State Government since they can make little difference in prices by reducing State taxes too like BJP Government did in Goa recently. Just for info for our Daiji Readers crude oil will give final output as follows
One Barrel Crude Oil will refine – 73 Litres of Petrol (i.e. One US Barrel=42 Gallon=159 Litres), or 40 Litres of Diesel or 16 Litres of Aviation Fuel various byproducts like fertilizers, plastic toys / gadgest, bubble gums, car tires, perfumes, petroleum jelly, ammonia & washing liquids

The hike in energy price is expected and justified in the wake of increase in gas price in the international market. India is a petrol-importing country and is bound to increase the price.

Nobody likes hike in gas price as it is the main factor for inflation. However, one has to understand the logic behind the price increase. India is one of the largest oil-importing countries and it can’t afford to sell the oil at loss for long. Gas prices are gone up manifold in the past few years. One of the main reasons to increase in the price in India is depreciation of Indian Rupee which is now fetching more than 55 against an US Dollar. India imports more than 70% of its energy requirement and because of its weak currency, it has to pay more now.

India is not the only country where the gas prices are going up. In Canada and the US, the prices are changing on daily basis. Today’s price in Canada was C$ 1.28 per litre, which is in term of Indian Rupees equivalent to Rs.70.50. Unlike India, Canada exports its oil.

Increasing oil price in India is a very delicate issue. The Opposition Parties, (whether it is BJP or Congress), always take the chance to lambast the ruling party for the price increase and instigate the public against the government. Can anyone think that they would not have raised the prices if they were in the power? Why are they silent when the gold price in India is increasing steeply? Even poor people are buying the gold for weddings, etc. but I have not seen anyone raising their voice.

Having said this, I don't support price increase, which results in inflation. However, what can our government do when they have to buy any product paying more than what they used to pay earlier?

Oil price is increased due to world market. Even in US present oil price is $4.50 per gallon. It was $2.75 just two months before and the price always fluctuates depends on world trade. It is nothing to do with central or state government. It is better to use public transport to save oil and avoid pollution.

In the past I have asked for RTI to be filed to know how cost per petroleum products produced (multi bye products including LPG are produced) when crude oil is cracked. But we are still in dark!
According to one Left Leader- fuel costs are arrived at international cost of production, while in India they are not even half- as labour, electricity, water & transport are cheaper compared to West.
All Fuel prices are only half of their final rate as they consist of- Import duties & surcharge by Center, State levies & VAT by States which constitute sometimes more than half!

Wrong Notion- Petrol is used by rich- in reality those who cannot afford 4 wheelers or diesel vehicles are forced to buy 2 wheelers & 4 wheelers using petrol as fuel. A surcharge is levied to subsidise diesel, kerosene & some other petroleum products which are wasted most of the time & are used to add to petrol to make a windfall by black marketeers.

Rich farmers who undertake mechanised farming are subsidised by poor & middleclass.
Gold & Diamonds are Duty Free which is not essential commodity like petrol for the Development of our Country!

The Best Economist to have adorned the seat of PM has become a legacy & a thorn in the flesh of Aam Aadmi- by whose vote catapulted his party to power in 2004 when he was fed up with NDA's India Shining slogan( only politicians where shining, while aam aadmi was suffering then too).
As long as we are ruled by these INSENSITIVE Politicians whom we are carrying on our shoulder hoping they would bring us up where as they are placing their feet on our head & trampling us thinking we are fools who don't know Economics or doesn't remember all these wrongs as Election is 2 years away.

This is UPA's gift to the people of its so called "Successfull" 3 years completion on sucking peoples blood. The whole UPA was partying yesterday in delhi talking about its so called achivements in 3 years (from 2G 2 mining 2 coal 2 Adarsh 2 Army etc )when the Rupee value is falling day by day and inflation is at its all time high.
Nation has never seen inflation in fuel prices in this extent like under this Government. India Deffinitly shining as we will very soon have atleat 5 of our major cities apprearing in Times magzine about world top 10 expensive city's to live in.
I know this has to do with the Global oil prices whih is traded in Dollors and Rupee is falling day by day againts it. What is UPA doing , partying at taxpayers money. They posteponed this untill now in the precest of elections and now suddenly imposed this as they do not see election very soon. This is what Congress Govt been doing all these decades. Hiding or posteponign the situations from people and giving them false hope of nation shining and finally looking at the perfect opportunity dumping the liablities on poor & middle class.

This is UPA-2's bumper gift to the nation on the occasion of its third anniversary. Mamata is out, Lalu and Mulayam in for the Dinner along with DMK. The present nexus gave Congress enough courage to raise the petrol price by record 7 rupees. Long live Madam and Robot MMS.

This is the gift of UPA II government on completing three years in office.BJP state governments should be at least be in line with their congress counter parts in maintaing parity with price tag.If they are not ready for that also there is no difference between Congress and BJP and both are two sides of same coin.

It is very painful to see each month increase in the petrol price. We can see lots of families coming into streets due to these unprecedented increases and inflation. India is slowly becoming a failed economy.

And one more thing by debating and Discussing here the Price wont come down.So need some serious measure taken against this useless Govt of India
