Latest at 9.50am, May 21

The two international cricketers who play in the IPL for Pune Warriors India and had been arrested at the rave party that took place in Mumbai on May 20 have been identified as Rahul Sharma of India and Wayne Parnell of South Africa. The cricketers were taken to undergo medical test but have been released on bonds.

The police have also arrested the organiser of the party, Vijay Handa, under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS)

Mumbai, May 20 (TOI) : Police broke up a rave party on the terrace of a Juhu hotel on Sunday evening and detained 96 youngsters, including several foreign nationals. At least two IPL players and a couple of children of celebrities were among them, police sources said.

"We found 58 men and 38 women at the rave party at Oakwood Premier Hotel on J R Mhatre Road near Juhu beach," said zonal DCP Pratap Dighavkar. Police seized around 110 gm of cocaine, besides Ecstasy tablets and charas.

The police will lodge two types of cases - one for possession and the other for consumption of proscribed drugs. Cocaine, Ecstasy and charas were recovered from the venue.

Around 100 youngsters have been sent to various hospitals for their blood and urine samples to be collected.

"The party was being held on the open terrace of the hotel. We acted around 8 pm on the basis of a tip-off. A decoy had been sent to the party and we acted after a green signal from him," an official said, adding that the police are trying to pinpoint the organizers of the party and who supplied the drugs.

"All those youngsters whose identities have been confirmed will be sent back home. If their blood and urine reports are positive for drugs, only then will they be called and taken into custody," said additional commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, who supervised the raid.

Police are recording the statements of all those present and taking down their contact details. They are also bring asked how they received invites to the party.

The drugs seized have been sent for analysis to the forensic science laboratory at Kalina.

Dear Shahi, Canada, I do not know, whether your daughter is given access to internet or not. In Canada, after 17 yrs, parents do not have right of contrrolon their children. But the present children definitely have access to internet and they will observe on YOUTUBE which even u cannot stop your daughter. Might be u cannot digest, through internet your daughter is exposed to many sites, which u may not approve. Days have gone when parents used to control children with fear. Canada this is highly impossible.

It is how they can overcome with this culture is important. From the young age I had attended parties where both sex mingle. If this is bothering you, I have nothing to comment.

I have clearly advised drugs are bad. If alcohol is legally available, then why enjoying party with alcohol is bad. No body forcing one's daughter to go there. As per the Indian law after 18 yrs, boy and girl is free to decide his/her own life.

Are we Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. Why our rules at the Hotels are not crystal clear.

Even in Dubai, Hotel serve liquor till early morning 1.00 am and some till at 2.00 am.

Those who do not enjoy life are the ones commenting wrong about the rave party. No body forcing one to go to the rave party. We are nothing less than hypocrites.

First draw the rules clear and then take action. Disgusting.

Do agree drugs is not at all acceptable and for this strict action is welcome. But having party and fun, is nothing wrong.

This is nothing but mail problem is parents,
    (a) Parents don’t. Have any control of their children.
    (b) Parents are busy with party, business and counting black money.
    (c) Parents and children should be punished 3-6 month in front of emergency ward specially Govt. Hospital. Let them see what real life is and what the meaning of life is.
    (d) IPL should be banned – I can see only money nothing. Girls are dancing in front of viewers is it necessary.

It's good that police are cracking down such parties, but there are more serious issues like rampant corruption, snail-paced judiciary, police inefficiency, law and order problem etc, need more focus.
