Obama Remembers Donna Summer

New York, May 20 (IANS): US president Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama offered condolences to late singer Donna Summer.

"Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Donna Summer. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Donna truly was the Queen of Disco. Her voice was unforgettable, and the music industry has lost a legend far too soon," Obama in a statement, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donna's family and her dedicated fans," he added.

The singer passed away Thursday following a secret battle with lung cancer, which she was reportedly diagnosed in 2011.

A string of superstars including Sir Elton John, Barbra Streisand and Mary J. Blige have remembered Summer's talents and achievements.

The star will be laid to rest in Nashville, Tennessee May 21.
