Cops Go Undercover to Help Women in Shanghai Metro

Beijing, May 19 (IANS): Undercover police officers are now patrolling metro trains in Chinese business hub Shanghai to protect women passengers from sexual harassment.

Authorities said such harassment usually increases with warmer weather, according to the Shanghai Daily.

Police said they would not be lenient on such offenders, and asked victims not to hesitate to shout and to alert the police immediately.

Police, however, suggested that women passengers should avoid dressing too scantily in public to better protect themselves.

Posts on social networking website Weibo has helped police crack down on subway harassment. Police said they use such posts every day to better allocate their forces.
