Woman Accuses Bengal Cop of Misbehaving with Her

Kolkata, May 17 (IANS): A woman in South 24 Parganas district near here has lodged a complaint against a police station chief for allegedly misbehaving with her, police said Thursday.

"We have received a complaint of alleged misbehaviour against Bishnupur police station in-charge Subir Chowdhury and a probe has been launched," district police superintendent Pravin Tripathi told IANS.

The woman, a teacher, alleged Chowdhury made advances to her and even threatened her of dire consequences if she did not concede to his demands, police said.

The woman has also submitted recorded telephonic conversations between her and the official.

According to the woman, her ordeal started after she met Chowdhury in connection with a complaint filed against her husband a few days ago. The official asked the women to come to the police station May 10 but owing to some work she could not turn up.

The police official allegedly started making frequent phone calls to her late at night and misbehaved with her, the woman said in her complaint.

Earlier in February this year, two officials of the Park Street police station were removed from active duty and departmental proceedings were initiated against them after they misbehaved with a woman who had gone there to file a complaint for an alleged rape.

A couple of months later, two more officials of the Kalighat police station were suspended for allegedly misbehaving with a woman.
