Mumbai, May 16: The Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan and chief minister Prithviraj Chavan met the President of Maldives Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday May 15.
President Hassan is currently on a five-day visit to India and evinced keen interest in forging trade and economic relations with Maharashtra. He told the Governor that electricity is a major problem in Maldives and that power companies from India can help the Maldives to tide over the energy deficiency. Mentioning that Maharashtra’s relationship with Maldives dates back to ancient times, he invited the Governor and the chief minister to bring a business and ministerial delegation to his nation. The two sides discussed ideas to enhance co-operation in tourism, health, education, business, and trade.
The Governor informed Dr Hassan that India attaches the highest importance to its relations with Maldives. He said that the time-tested multi-dimensional bilateral relationships between the two nations can be further strengthened by such high level visits.
