Iran Hangs Assassin of Nuclear Physicist

Tehran, May 15 (IANS): Iran Tuesday hanged a man convicted of assassinating an Iranian nuclear physicist, a media report said.

Majid Jamali Fashi, who was also accused of being an agent of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, was hanged in Tehran Tuesday morning, reported Xinhua citing IRIB TV.

Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, a professor of Tehran University, was killed by a remote controlled bomb attached to a motorcycle near his home in northern Tehran in January 2010.

Iran has accused Israel of assassinating its nuclear scientists, and has blamed the US for being behind the terror acts against Iranian scholars.

The West suspects that Iran's uranium enrichment programme might be aimed at producing nuclear weapons. Iran has categorically denied the accusations, saying its nuclear program is only for peaceful use.
