Mumbai, May 4: Well known Catholic charismatic preacher, vice-president of International Association of Exorcists passed away in London on Thursday May 3.
Fr Rufus Pereira performed exorcisms worldwide and has been the catalyst in bringing lay people into the deliverance ministry and the Catholic Church's closer cooperation with such groups.
In 1994 he was selected as vice president of the International Association of Exorcists which was started in 1993, and in 1995 initiated the International Association for the Ministry of Deliverance.
Fr Rufus Pereira was the man of self respect in the world of Christianity.
There seems no end to Church's woes as far as ‘Fathers own country’ is concerned. After ex-nun Sister Sandra tell-all book on the dark side of the convent life, it's now the turn of a former priest to expose what he claims ‘sexual anarchy among the clergy and the faithful’.
The book, 'Here is the heart of a Priest',Fr Rufus Pereira, who left the Vincentian congregation after 11 years, is autobiographical and slams the ‘indulgent and licentious life-style of a section of the clergy’.
Fr Rufus Pereira’s priestly vocation began in his family and parish in Bandra, India. However his first personal experience of the Catholic charismatic renewal was on Pentecost Sunday in 1972 – at the renewal’s beginning in India. Since then he has worked extensively in renewal and world evangelism ministries.
He has been editor of ‘Charisindia’, the national charismatic monthly, director of the National Charismatic Bible College and continued to be visiting post-graduate scripture professor at a Pontifical Theological Institute. In 1994 he was selected as vice president of the newly started International Association of Exorcists, Rome and in 1995 initiated the International Association for the Ministry of Deliverance.
He joined the ICCRS council in 1997 and represented Asia and the healing and deliverance ministries.
