Rio de Janeiro, Apr 29 (IANS): Gremio will be without goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe for Sunday's match against archrival Internacional after the 25-year-old underwent emergency surgery on his testicles.
Grohe was struck by a ball during a closed training session at the club's Porto Alegre base Friday and was taken to hospital for immediate surgery, Xinhua reported.
It is unknown how long Grohe is expected to be out of action.
Gremio's former Real Madrid and Brazil coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo indicated Grohe would be replaced by reserve keeper Busatto for Sunday's match.
Luxemburgo said Gremio would regain defender Mario Fernandes for the duel with Intrernacional.
The 21-year-old, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, has been signed by CSKA Moscow, but will only join the Russian club after Gremio's Copa do Brasil campaign.
The winner of the Gremio-Interncional match will play Caxias in the final of the Farroupilha Cup.
