New Delhi, Apr 25 (IANS): The Delhi High Court Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking direction to the Bar Council of Delhi and the Delhi Bar Association to investigate the CD controversy related to Congress MP and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Dismissing the public interest litigation (PIL), a division bench of Acting Chief Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said the Bar Council of Delhi and the Delhi Bar Association were not empowered to take action against the employee of a lawyer.
The petitioner, advocate Sanjay Kumar, had moved the court saying that the controversy had been decided without considering the allegations made in the CD and the FIR had been dropped without any further investigation. Kumar added that the image of two prominent lawyers of the high court has been tarnished in the row.
The court, however, refused to entertain the plea and questioned the petitioner for filing the case. It said the affected person had not filed any grievance against Singhvi's driver who had allegedly made the CD.
The court had earlier granted a permanent injunction against publishing or distributing the contents of a CD allegedly depicting the former Congress spokesperson in a compromising position.
The court had granted injunction after Mukesh Kumar Lal, Singhvi's former driver who allegedly prepared the CD, informed the court in a written statement that the matter had been amicably settled between him and Singhvi.
