Kasargod, Apr 24: Their murderer was caught after 19 years of intense search, but it is of little consolation to the mother of Srikrishna Bhat's wife, who, along with her husband was brutally killed by Imam Husain.
Husain was arrested from Bangalore only a couple of days ago. The murder took place way back in 1993.
Laxmi, mother-in-law of slain Srikrishna Bhat has been living as a destitute for the past few years. She was spotted in the city streets and can only converse in Kannada. The locals, on enquiring in Malayalam, could not understand her.
When a person who knew Kannada enquired about her misery, she said that she was the mother-in-law of Bhat who was slain along with her daughter many years ago. She had lost her husband when her daughter was still a child. She brought her daughter up with great difficulty. She is now mentally unstable and lives like a destitute wandering about in the city.
Bhat was living in Laxmi’s house. At the time of the murder, Laxmi was away in Mumbai. Having no one to turn to, she returned to her native village and lived a few years in an old age home for women at Paravanadka, near here.
On learning that the accused Imam Hussain had been nabbed she said, "I heard the murderer of my daughter has been caught. I have seen his photo in paper. Where is he? I want to see him once. God will never forgive him."
