Mumbai, Apr 6: The Way of the Cross was held live on the streets of Mumbai on Friday April 6 at 10.30 am, from Sacred Heart Church, Santa Cruz (W), led by Fr Varnen Agyar, parish priest of the Church, under the aegis of Catholic Secular Forum.
It has been 25 year that without fail, every Good Friday, the Stations of the Cross as a musical is being enacted on the streets of Khar, Santacruz (E and W), Vakola Kalina and Kurla. Tens of thousands Christians join in the walking pilgrimage on this day of fast, prayer, penance and abstinence.
A dramatic representation aimed to vividly portray the happenings at Calvary, over 2012 years ago, by enacting 15 songs on the streets.
The four-hour programme was a rich spiritual experience for at least 40,000 of those who attended and which was witnessed by many thousands more. The crowds comprised men, women and children, and many were moved to tears by the enacting of the Way of the Cross.
The 15 stations of the cross are Highlight Scenes on the way, The Agony in the Garden and Jesus is before Pilot’s Court, Jesus Meets His Mother, Simon, Veronica and Weeping Woman, The 3 Falls, Stripping, Crucifixion, Laying in the Tomb and Resurrection.
