Washington, Apr 3 (IANS): Seven people were killed and three wounded in a shooting spree at a college in northern California, CNN reported Monday citing police.
Gunfire erupted at Oikos University, a private Christian college in the city of Oakland, around 10:30 a.m. According to witnesses, about 30 gunshots were fired.
A suspect was later arrested outside a Safeway convenience store in a nearby city of Alameda, police reported.
His identity has not been disclosed but he is believed to be a former Oikos student, who acted alone, reported RIA Novosti.
Campus shootings have plagued the American schools and universities ever since the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999 when two students killed 12 others and a teacher, and injured more than 20 before killing themselves.
The latest shooting occurred in February in Ohio when a high school student killed three and wounded six students.
