Berlin, Apr 1 (IANS): Bayern Munich narrowed the gap with league leaders Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga following a 1-0 victory over Nuremberg.
In the southern derby, the Jupp Heynckes side carved out a hard earned win over a determined Nuremberg. Dortmund's 4-4 draw at home to Stuttgart helped Bayern move to within three points of the defending champions.
Nuremberg's defence made life difficult for the German record champions. Dutch international Arjen Robben scored in the 70th minute to give Bayern a well-earned lead.
Bayern retracted into their own half after taking the lead, giving Nuremberg a chance for a late equalizer but all their efforts remained unrewarded.
Bayern stay in second position with 60 points while Nuremberg slips from 11th to 12th position with 31 points.
In other matches Saturday, a struggling Hamburg beat Kaiserslautern 1-0. The winner came from midfielder Marcell Jansen.
Wolfsburg came from behind to crush relegation threatened Berlin 4-1 while Augsburg overpowered Cologne 2-1.
