Ponda, Mar 29: In a unique style, 'Hay Saiba', collection of poems by Uday Mhambre was released at the hands of Baburao Satarkar, who is known for his hard work. the poet had a dream to release his book at the hands of such a personality.
The book release programme which was held at Tropical Spice Plantation in Keri was attended by more than 300 people including friends and relatives of Mhambre. Some of them had also come from Maharashtra.
Anna Satarkar, owner of Tropical Spice Plantation and very good friend of Mhambre, noted farmer of the area Sadashiv Prabhu Tendulkar, Shreekant Mhambre, Kashinath Naik and multifaceted personality and a publisher Sanjeev Verenkar was present on the dais.
A traditional lamp was lit by his friends and relatives who were present for the function. To entertain the gathering, a Konkani musical programme was also held.
Sanjeev Verenkar, a poet, said that it is very important and happiest day for him to see the poems of his friend Uday Mhambre got released, as he motivated him since childhood to write and because of him (Uday Mhambre) today he reached to certain place of literature.
Sanjeev Verenkar while addressing the gathering said that quantity of books is not important in the literature but quality plays the vital role to give its best to the society.
According to him one should not boast about the quantities of his literature, but he should write quality literature as students and youths see them as their icon.
Poet Uday Mhambre in his speech expressed his happiness saying his first book got released on his 50th birthday. He told that he had written his first poem in the year 1981.
Mhambre who is in coconut selling business by his forefathers, also emphasized on traditional business and appealed Goans not feel ashamed or hesitate to carry on their traditional businesses.
He lamented that youths are going away from traditional business and are after services. He said if everyone runs after service then who will take forward traditional businesses.
Prof Subhash Jann, Mukhesh Thali, Sneha Sanjeev Verenkar, Utkarsha Kamat, Kannya Pavse, Samidha Sanjeev Verenkar also spoke on the occasion.
