London, Mar 23 (IANS): A high court judge here has ordered Force India Formula One team to pay $1.12 million to former wind tunnel supplier Aerolab in relation to their two-year-old dispute over intellectual property.
Justice Arnold Wednesday settled the case in Aerolab's favour after Vijay Mallya co-owned Force India accused the Italian firm of copying parts of their wind tunnel's design for Team Lotus, now known as Caterham.
A separate hearing will be held to determine the legal costs of the case, The Guardian reported.
However, Force India were awarded compensation of $33,100 for the misuse of their intellectual property with Aerolab employees passing some of the aerodynamic designs to Caterham for the 2010 season.
The ruling going against Force India brings fresh concerns for Mallya, who is struggling to keep his debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines afloat.
