Mumbai, Mar 20: “The organizers of any programme should have time consciousness. One can imagine the hardships that one has to go through, owing to delays in beginning the programme. The poor attendance of people at a platinum celebration brought me grief. I have no idea whether it’s the influence of TV or lack of love for mother tongue Kannada. The contributions of metro-based Karnataka Sangh since 75 years are noteworthy. It’s opportune to remember the founders of this great organization during the platinum jubilee celebration. The love for Kannada in the metro is worthy,” said Dr P Dayanand Pai, chairman, Bangalore-based Century Group.
He was the chief guest speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebrations of metro-based Kannada Sangh held at Dr M Vishveshwarayya Memorial auditorium of Karnataka Sangh, Matunga (West), on Sunday March 18.
“Language is a media for human beings to forge bonds. The women play a key role in sustaining language. The future of mankind lies in sustaining language. The cultural upbringing of children will be a step in this regard. Women were treated as goddesses in ancient India. They deserve a higher status in society for instilling cultural values in children and lead a fruitful life on earth,” said Dr Pai.
Kannada Sangh president Gururaj S Nayak presided over the programme. Rajasthan Singhania Univesity local director Dr K S Raju, Kalyan Sharada Bhaskar Shetty Memorial Trust director Bhaskar S Shetty, Virar–Nallasopara Karnataka Sangh president Shankar K T, and Vidhyasimha Acharya were present on the occasion.
Dr Pai released the souvenir ‘Amrutadare–2012’ on the same occasion. The veterans felicitated for their distinguished services were - R B Hebballi (education), N B H Kulkarini (employment), Vidushi Uma Nagabhushan (music), Guru Mahabala N Suvarna (dance), and Mogaveera Vyavastapaka Mandali (social service).
‘Nrutya Vaibhav’, dance recital by the artistes of Arunodaya Kalaniketan, Chembur, directed by Guru Meenakshi Raju Shriyan was staged as part of the cultural programme.
Kannada Sangh vice-presidents N R Rao, Dr B R Manjunath, K Manjunatayya, U Venkataraj Rao and H S Adoor, honorary treasurer Rajendra Gadiyar, and diamond jubilee committee president N Satish Nayak were present on the dais.
Gururaj S Nayak welcomed the gathering. Vice president Kamalaksha G Saraf and Vishwanath Siddakatte introduced the guests. Suguna V Shetty, honorary chief secretary B Nagabhushan, and journalist Dayasagar Chowta compered the programme. .
