Dubai : 'Uncle Twenty20' Quits Job to Watch Indo - Pak Match !

Dubai, Mar 18 (Emirates 24X7): Cricket fever is running high in the subcontinent as mother of all matches – India vs Pakistan - is played today.

Indian and Pakistanis across the globe will be glued to their TV sets today to watch the high-adrenaline Asia Cup game live from Mirpur, Bangladesh.

The fever could be gauged from the fact that an Indian cricket aficionado cycled all the way from Kolkata (India) to Mirpur to support his national cricket team.

Across the border in Pakistan, another cricket buff even went a step further.

The Dubai-based Zaman Khan, popularly known as Uncle Twenty20, has resigned his job after he was refused leave to watch the high-adrenaline match in Bangladesh.

"My leave application was refused so I decided to quit and go back to the country to watch and support my team. I just cancelled the visa and returned home after my employer rejected my leave application," Uncle Twenty20 told Pakistani television channels.

The 54-year-old is a chauffeur in Dubai and has not missed a single match ever since Pakistan was forced to play in UAE due to security fears back home.

Zaman recently said in an interview that it's his dream to watch a game of cricket between Pakistan and India.

"Maybe in the near future I will get a chance to watch Pakistan play India, because that is what the crowd enjoys the most and slogans come from the core of the heart," he told AFP in February this year.

Zaman didn't get holiday time to attend the World Cup semi-final between the arch-rivals last year, but now he's determined to watch the game even if it costs him his job.

Zaman Khan has fast become the face of cricket in the UAE during international matches as he waves a green and white Pakistan flag to make his country's players feel at home away from home.

On the grounds, Zaman drives the fans crazy, chanting slogans for his players. His big moustache he grows every time a match approaches make him recognisable in every stand he sits.

"It is great fun," Zaman said. "I love watching cricket and people around me love my attire, the flag, my moustache and my slogans, so I am happy to have this double enjoyment - watching cricket and getting popular."

Zaman is second most popular face of cricket after his countrymen Sufi Abdul Jalil - famous as Chacha (Uncle) Cricket.

This is called craziness and insane. No sane person will leave his bread and butter just for trivial reason... He could have watched the game on TV... They dont have wisdom and thinking abilities. Only carried away by emotions.. Now Pak lost, job gone. Who will feed his family??? PCB should give this man a permanent job so that his family doesnt suffer. Any takers or any givers???

Uncle Twenty 20 you are up to some game to quit your job to watch Indo-Pak match. People in UAE or for the matter of in the Gulf or all over the world are in int the recession time and this Uncle quits a job to watch a match.I feel that guy is sick or he has some other illegal money with him to support himself and his family if he has one. Let him keep watching.

    @Sunil, Mangalore.
I totally disagree with you. you too have been influenced by political gimmics. I have known many pakistanis, they are my good friends too. If we analyze "Aam admi" factor from people of both countries, they are one at heart and mind, seeking friendship-not enimity.
So let's go forward and build the bridges - not the walls,
extend the hand of friendship - not of enimity,
Break barriers of division & suspician and create the atmoshphere of friendly civilization.
    Jai ho Hindustan aur Pakistan

This is for Sunil Mangalore. I used to have the same feelings as you have, when I was younger. Now I am much more mature and had enough exposure to lots of people from different countries. Not all Pakistanis are bad. I have some very good Pakistani friends in my office who I know from last 10 years and rely on them when needed. All this hatred is created by the politicians for votes and innocent people fall for them. All Indians and Pakis will be watching the match in one room today. it much more fun...........

    Sunil mangalore,
Stop politicising sport man, and enjoy the game (like our indian and pakistani bookmakers who will rig the game and make money for themselves). In that way, at least, indians and pakistanis are the same - corrupt to the core.

Good fun to watch such characters on TV. In India we only have a skinny lad whom i have seen on TV (supporting tendlya) and paints his face with the indian tricolour. He looks like another character.

What is the big deal for Uncle twenty20...a silly job??? No problem at all. He has so many notorious ways to loot money. After all he is a smart citizen of Pakistan. "Slogans come from the heart" not with game spirit...it's because of jealousy...and i want pakistan to die of jealousy. We are not at all interested to keep any kind of relation with pakistan neither we need any relation with them.
