Mangalore, Feb 21: Tense situation prevailed during the annual general body meeting of Akhila Bharata Billawara Union held at Shri Narayan Guru Sabhabavana at Kudroli here on Tuesday February 21, over an issue regarding election procedures.
A group of the Billawa community gathered at the meeting venue to oppose the by-law procedures followed in appointments for the various posts and membership. They alleged that Naveenchandra Suvarna has been continuing in the post of president of the union from past 16 years without taking into consideration the rules and regulation.
As per routine, the AGM is held every year at the venue a day after Maha Shivarathri.
After heated exchange of words, the irate people pelted stones inside the hall where the meeting was taking place, damaging a window.
Taking note of the situation, Barke police arrived at the spot and the meeting was temporarily cancelled. Sources told Daijiworld that the meeting will resume in the afternoon.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Naveenchandra Suvarna brushed aside the incident and said that it was a trivial issue. "It was only a difference of opinion, nothing major. Only members were allowed inside the meeting hall," he said.
