Beltangady, Feb 21: Officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA), who have been probing the bomb blasts which occurred at Goa during Deepavali celebrations in 2009, and the infamous Malegaon blast, arrived here on Monday February 20. They took into custody two youth living at Totattady within Neriya gram panchayat in the taluk for questioning them. The officials brought both of them to the local police station on Monday evening, where the two were interrogated extensively.
The arrested persons are Uday and Vinay, children of Shanmugan from Aniyoor village. Reportedly, the two are relatives of Jayaprakash, one of the main accused in Malegaon blast case, in which the name of Sadhwi Pragya Singh Thakur has emerged as the main accused. It is said that the two used to live with Jayaprakash at Goa in the past, and that Uday, who continued to be stationed in Goa, was on a visit to his native village since the last some days.
Jaiprakash
Jayaprakash belongs to Kadaba. He had married a close relative of Uday and Vinay, after which the youth shifted to Goa with Jayaprakash. It is unclear as to whether these two youth had direct participation in the bomb blast, or they are being questioned in an effort to locate the present whereabouts of Jayaprakash. The locals too do not know much about these two youth, except that out of the two who used to live in Goa, one had recently shifted to Bangalore.
It is said that the family of the above two youth has close association with an ancient organization, and the family members used to be active propagators of the principles preached by this organization, duly encouraging the people to enroll into this organization. The family used to be hotelliers, and the locals have expressed surprise about the fact that the youth from the family are being linked to a crime.
The people are curious about the outcome of the present visit of the investigators, as they recall that during the previous visit of an NIA team about a year back, some surprising information had emrged. At that time, involvement of the district unit of a saffron organization in terrorist activities had been revealed. The local police, however, have feigned ignorance about the said case or the purpose of the NIA questioning.
