Kasargod, Feb 19: In a massive haul, police recovered stocks of explosives from a Maruti Omni parked near Perla petrol station near here on Saturday February 18 night.
The police seized four sacks containing nearly 200 kg of ammonium nitrate, 500 aluminium detonators in five packets and six roles of wicks.
The police inspected Omni based on suspicion, as it was found abandoned near the petrol bunk. It is suspected that the culprits may have fled the scene when they realized that there was strict security check going on at some distance. The car was said to be plying from Puttur to Kasargod.
The police also found a mobile phone and the car's RC in the name of Mohammed of Alankar, Puttur, inside the car.
Of late, security in Kasargod has been beefed up in the wake of sporadic incidents of violence, protests and stone-pelting. Every vehicle is being checked thoroughly. In addition, Section 144 has been clamped for a fortnight and no two-wheelers are allowed on the roads between 8 pm and early morning, sources said.
Puttur and Badiyadka police have jointly taken up the case for further investigation.
