Mangalore: Colleagues, Well-wishers Recall Memories of Dr V S Acharya

Mangalore, Feb 17: The Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) Dakshina Kannada district committee paid tribute to Dr V S Acharya along with the representatives of different religious communities including government officers at Dr TMA Pai Convention Centre on Friday February 17.

D H Shankaramurthy, chairman of Upper House, expressed deep condolences over the sudden death of the minister who was also his close friend. He recollected the days he spent with Dr Vedavyasa Srinivasa Acharya and pointed out some of his  contributions to society. He appreciated Dr Acharya’s efforts in banning manual scavenging that was practiced in his hometown of Udupi, in solving the problems that arose on the issue of CET, and also in tackling the dearth of rice in the state.

"Today, when its shameful to introduce anyone as a politician, Dr Acharya showed to the people a different facet of a politician through his works. The environment in which he lived his life is what remains as inspiration to others,” opined Murthy.

Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore, representing the Christian community, said that he was a great help to the minorities as well. “Dr Acharya never turned away when he was approached for financial support especially for the 125th jubilee celebrations of the diocese. He worked till his last breath event though he had undergone a  lot of health problems,” added the Bishop.

After paying homage, zilla panchayat chief executive officer K N Vijay Prakash said that it's a great loss to the society as he lived life inspiring the young generation. “Dr Acharya concentrated on development of the society and adopted discipline in his way of life. He had a vision and inculcated all human qualities,” he added.

Sri Rajashekharnanda Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt, Ramanath Rai, and some others also spoke on the occasion. There were other government office-bearers, police personnel, and politicians present at the condolence meet.

    Really appreciated the way the people from different communities,parties,religion,caste congregated in one place and paid rich tribute to Dr.V.S.Acharya.May be his party,his ideology differs from others but as human being his noble cause,service rendered towards the welfare of the people,contribution to the society is no match and is being appreciated,lauded by each section of the society.Non controversial,non partisan in his stand.Spotless,well mannered,matured,helpful for the needy,educated soft spoken politician.
