Puttur, Feb 17: In a complaint filed with the Sampya police station, a youth has been accused of visiting the house of a girl in Swaminagara in Ariyadka village in the taluk on Tuesday night, and forcing the girl to marry him. The accoster also has been charged with pulling her hands and posing life threat with the help of a knife.
Pushpavati, the girl in question, has been admitted into a private hospital in the town for treatment of injuries suffered by her in the scuffle. In the complaint, the intruder has been named as Shafi from Tingalady, who now lives in Kumbra village.
Shafi used to visit a relative named Hazira living near Pushpavati’s house often. On Tuesday night, he approached Pushpavati at her home in a car along with a friend, and demanded her to marry him. He also showed his knife when she resisted his overture, threatened her, and injured her hand, it is said. He also menacingly brandished his knife when Pushpavati’s brother, Vinod, came there after hearing his sister’s shouts.
Once Vinod’s friends came there to help, Shafi boarded the waiting ambassador car in which his friend was seated, and fled from the scene, it is reported. Sampya policemen, who have registered a case, are investigating.
